Mount Desert Island (Acadia)
Geddy's
I cannot recommend Geddy’s enough. There are signs in the restaurant that say “got celiac?” They are clearly knowledgeable about safe practices for celiac disease. They have a large gluten free menu. I ordered their fish and chips. Which, all of their fried food is gluten free. It was delicious. I would highly recommend making a reservation for this restaurant. We did not go in high season and there was still a very long wait. We had our dogs with us on this trip, so we ended up getting takeout. Tip below for where to eat takeout in Bar Harbor!
Side Street Cafe
Side Street Cafe has a large gluten free menu. They have a large selection of specialty mac and cheeses. I had the bangin’ shrimp mac and cheese which was fantastic. I would also recommend making a reservation in advance for this restaurant.
Beal's Lobster Pier
Beal’s Lobster Pier is a great lobster pound and right on the water. When I went to the register to order and told them I had a gluten allergy, they advised “then you are in the right place.” Most of their menu is gluten free including all of their battered items. We had the fried seafood platter and it was fantastic. I was too full for dessert but they also offered a few gluten free desserts. Their online menu is also great, because it lets you know what is naturally gluten free and what can be accommodated to be gluten free, such as sandwiches with a gluten free bun.
Jordan Pond House Restaurant
The Jordan Pond House menu has clearly marked gluten free items, and our server was knowledgeable about cross contamination. I had the spinach bacon blue cheese salad which was delicious and the New England clam chowder which was good. The Jordan Pond House is known for their popovers and unfortunately, they did not have a gluten free option for those. I have heard other reviews that it is very expensive for what you get. I can agree that it is pricey, however, I do think sitting outside overlooking Jordan Pond, is a really nice experience.
Non-Food Related Recommendation
We brought our dogs with us on this trip, so finding restaurants that was dog friendly and gluten free was tough. On the main street in Bar Harbor is the Ivy Manor Inn. It is a beautiful inn with a large lawn. On the lawn they have numerous tables and fire pits and a small bar. You are able to bring outside food inside with the purchase of a drink from the bar. This was a great place to enjoy the weather and our takeout dinners. They also have live music sometimes.
